Employment and Training as a Bus Operator

Once a start date is provided selected candidates must obtain:

  • instructional Class II (2) licence
  • air brake endorsement

Candidates must provide the required documentation on the start date. Those failing to do so will have their offer of employment withdrawn.

Drivers licence

The offer of employment is conditional upon:

  • Successful completion of the functional and medical assessment by the OHS
  • Providing an acceptable Criminal Record search certificate, with a completed Vulnerable Sector search
  • Maintaining a driver’s abstract in good standing (no infractions; minimum +1 Driver Safety Rating)
  • Successful completion of required training
  • Successful completion of the Class II (2) licence road test and airbrake endorsement
  • Ability to maintain an excellent attendance record, this is a condition of employment
  • Successfully completing the six (6) month probationary period

Candidates who do not successfully complete the training and/or successfully complete the testing requirements to obtain a Class II (2) licence and air brake endorsement, will have the conditional offer of employment withdrawn.

Training Date Confirmation / Start of Training

Successful candidates are scheduled to participate in a thirty (30) day Bus Operator training program. The training program consists of both in-class and in-vehicle sessions. You must complete all assigned homework and pass all required tests (minimum 80% required to pass).

  • Candidates are expected to be prepared for in-class and in-vehicle training.
  • Candidates are required to exhibit professional conduct at all times.

You must meet the minimum testing requirements on all examinations related to your Class II (2) licence in order to continue as a Bus Operator.

Graduation from the Winnipeg Transit training program is dependent upon successful completion of all components of the program. Our standards are very high but our training program is designed to assist you in achieving success.
